Located in the middle of ZhongShan Road, in Qingdao Old Town, is the former site of Qingdao’s first branch of The Bank of Communications China (BOCC). This four story building, with offices on the second and above floors, is constructed of reinforced concrete over a solid base of Mount Lao granite. The facade is dominated by six eleven meter Corinthian columns with four central rounded pillars that open the main entrance west to ZhongShan Road. Designed by Zhuang Jun of China, the building was under construction between July, 1929 until its completion on March 16th, 1931. The building occupies a ground space of 1,371 square meters with a total floor space of 3,814.76 square meters. It has one basement which was used during times of war as a bomb shelter for Qingdao’s elite. Currently it is used as a business hall for China Construction Bank (CCB), ZhongShan Road Branch.
