Most of the cities hot springs are located in Jimo city. WenQuan, a town in Jimo city, has three naturally flowing springs that generally have a temperatures of 30°C-60°C. Occasionally these natural hot springs can reach temperatures as high as 93°C. This terrestrial heat is distributed over a 10 hectare area.

The total area of soil in Qingdao is 825,500 hectares, composing 74.35% of the total land area.  There are approximately 421,000 hectares of tillable land and 38,000 hectares of beach in Qingdao. The soil is divided into 5 categories: umber, black earth, tidal earth, brown earth, and sailing soil. Umber is the prevalent soil type and is used for growing agricultural products.  There are over 1400 species of living organisms in Qingdao, including 1000 species of plant life and 400 species of animal life.
