Recommend local seafood includes, but is not limited to: Hair Tail, Sierra, Flatfish, Pamphlet, Weaver, Black Carp and Yellow Croaker.  Local Blue Crabs are a delicacy; however, they must be alive when purchased to avoid food poisoning!  The more ovaries and digestive glands a crab has the better.  Qingdao clams, also known as “GaLa” in Qingdao dialect, are available in every restaurant and can be braised, fried with red or green chilies and dressed with various sauces.

Qingdao Soil & Organic Life
The total area of soil in Qingdao is 825,500 hectares, composing 74.35% of the total land area.  There are approximately 421,000 hectares of tillable land and 38,000 hectares of beach in Qingdao. The soil is divided into 5 categories: umber, black earth, tidal earth, brown earth, and sailing soil. Umber is the prevalent soil type and is used for growing agricultural products.  There are over 1400 species of living organisms in Qingdao, including 1000 species of plant life and 400 species of animal life.

The "Gas Tax" is Back:
Starting on November 5th, 2007 an additional 1 RMB will be charged on all taxi fares.  This is due to the ever rising gas prices that China and the rest of the world are facing.

The Qingdao Municipal Museum is Closed until July 2008:
The City's Municipal Museum is undergoing "Olympic renovation" and will not open until next year.
