Seaman’s Club – Qingdao Old Town

Seaman’s Club or German Navy Club: located at 17 HuBei Road began construction in 1901 and was completed in 1902. It was later used as the Japanese Club during their occupation until the end of WWII in1945 when the U.S. Troops were stationed in Qingdao (Tsingtao).

The former site of the Seaman’s Club or German Navy Club, located on HuBei Road in Qingdao Old Town (TingTau), was designed in 1899 and began construction in 1901. Completed in 1902, this Neo-Renaissance German style building was the first to have a large enough auditorium to house grand events. The former site of the Seaman’s Club or German Navy Club was later used as the Japanese club during the Japanese Occupation after WWI, followed by the Japanese Residents Organization until the end of WWII in 1945, when the U.S. Troops were station in Qingdao. At present the building is used as business offices and residences.青岛水师饭店旧址又名德国海军俱乐部,是青岛市区第一座设有大型礼堂的建筑。地上带阁楼共三层地下一层。道路转角处有一突起的尖顶塔楼,屋顶为四面坡形,覆以红瓦。由于处在坡度较大的道路旁,南侧入口采取顺路侧向设踏步进入门厅的形式。建筑属德国新文艺复兴式风格,1899年设计,建于1901年5月至1902年。日占时期为日本俱乐部,1945年为美军驻所。现在该建筑一部分为办公单位使用,一部分为企业租用和居民居住。

I think I have a picture of my father and his two navy buddies sitting on that stone wall in 1946. Is there a way to post my photo?
