 A few years ago many foreigners complained that there wasn’t much of a variety in cuisine here in Qingdao like that of Beijing or Shanghai. Today is a different story; there are restaurants of all sorts of cuisines such as Italian, French, Mexican, German, Russian, Chinese of all kinds and finally Indian.
Besides the Asia Café’s venue Qingdao now has the Fatema Indian Restaurant & Teahouse located on 10 GuTian Lu, up the street from MyKAL off of ZhongZhou Er Lu.
It is a medium sized café decorated with Indian paintings and jewelry which is supplied by the Fatema Indian Shop located on 86 Taidong Sixth Road.
The Indian Curries are very tasty and come in vegetable, lamb, and chicken. Fatema Indian Restaurant makes chicken in six different ways Tandoori, Kurma, Curry, Masala, Green Chilli and Chicken Dopiazza. They also make different fish dishes which are out of this world. The tea house is also vegetarian friendly. It has many vegetarian dishes such as Sag with potatoes or cauliflower, (they can make original sag but because of ingredients it is rather expensive and should be ordered in advance), Bhindi (an Okra dish), Alu Gobi (potato with cauliflower), as well as Curry vegetables and of course the vegetable Briyani Rice.
They make two kinds of Indian bread; Moglai Perata and the plain Luchi bread. Moglai Perata, which is many Expats favorite, is one of the oldest kinds of breads named after the word king. Besides bread they also have the Vegetable, Lamb and beef Briyani Rice as a staple.
Their traditional tea and milk tea are out of this world. They also make Lassie and a couple deserts such Lassi (a desert made out of butter and milk), Rash Mala (milk ball) and Sandash (milk pudding) They also serve Faduda but you have to preorder it.. Over all it is a must to go to. You can eat or just enjoy tea and a dessert. A place that will give you a variety and spice to life!
