How to Get a Library Card :: Qingdao Municipal Public Library Print
Sunday, 15 May 2005
Qingdao LibraryAre you tired of the lack of books or magazines to read?   Well you are lucky to be in Qingdao!  Besides some cafés and friends that are willing to swap a book on occasion, you can also get a library card at the local Qingdao library.

The Qingdao Municipal Public Library is located at 109 Yanji Road in Shinan district. The library offers a decent mix of encyclopedias, college textbooks, novels, professional trade journals and cultural books to keep you busy for at least ten years. The library is open from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays and 9:00 am to 5:30 pm on weekends.

The card is free.  All you need to do is bring  your ID (Passport) and fill out an application. However, if you would like to borrow books you must leave a 80 RMB deposit for Chinese language books  and 160 RMB deposit for foreign books.  If you would like a card for your child under 16 years of age (which can only be used to check out books from the Childrens Reading Room) -- add an extra fee of 30 RMB.  The library is modern and has a western library feeling.   There is plenty of space and tables to study all day long.  As soon as I walked in it brought a feeling of normality and routine.  Take a trip to the library and enjoy Qingdao!
