Are you tired of the lack of books or magazines to read? Well you are lucky to be in Qingdao! Besides some cafés and friends that are willing to swap a book on occasion, you can also get a library card at the local library. The Qingdao Municipal Public Library is located at 109 Yanji Road in Shinan district. The library offers a decent mix of encyclopedias, college textbooks, novels, professional trade journals and cultural books to keep you busy for at least ten years. The library is open from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays and 9:00 am -5:30 pm on weekends. Unlike western libraries, a library card will cost you about 10 RMB. All you need is your ID (Passport) and two passport photos for your application. If you would like to borrow books you must leave a 90 RMB deposit for Chinese books and a 160 RMB deposit for foreign books. The library is modern and has a western library feeling. There is plenty of space and tables to study all day long. As soon as I walked in it brought a feeling of normality and routine. Take a trip to the library and enjoy Qingdao.
