China’s largest export expo for five decades now includes an import section for the first time this year in the country’s latest move to curb the rising trade surplus. The fair, also known as Canton Fair, has been a biannual event held in spring and autumn since 1957. This event which has been renamed this year to the Chinese Import and Export Commodities Fair is currently under way and will run until April 30th. The Guangdong fair is expected to attract more than 300 enterprises from 37 countries and various regions. The big players include the United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Malaysia.
According to Vice-Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng, “The move reflects the Chinese government’s intent to promote imports and achieve a trade balance with other countries.”
“This is an ideal opportunity to add value to your China supply chain portfolio by meeting new factories and suppliers; if your supply chain portfolio is light on China, add some weight by potentially meeting over 14,000 exhibitors.” -- China Sourcing Direct.
Qingdao Import News Highlights: The Chinese market currently has a strong demand for energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies, products and equipment. Big breakthroughs in this sector may be difficult to achieve given that some of these technologies are subject to export control policies.
