"I was lucky to hang out under a cherry tree with a Laoshan local and talk about life in the countryside." -M.Scirocco Is the Cherry Season your favorite time of the year? "Yes but I also like when cherry trees blossom!" How long do the blossoms last? "In March it’s like the wind." What Kind of Cherry Trees are these? "These are not the Big Cherry Cherry trees. They are the little Cherry Cherry Trees!" How many cherry trees do you have on this property? (All proud and grabs a branch) "I have 101 cherry trees. Also have a nursery of some. We are grafting many trees. 101 Trees that you can enjoy now." How old are the trees? "These trees (as she points to some of the old trees) are 14 years old. Some are older and some are new trees. The Most of them are 14 years old." When was the first time a foreigner visited your orchard? (She looked at us in a awkward way and smiled then began to talk) "Well you see last year there were some and they are many Koreans. They look Chinese but they don’t understand Chinese (Ting Bu Dong!)" Can we come here next year? (Her phone rings and she starts talking in local dialect) She gets loud and says, "of course. Come tomorrow! Here is my name card."
The Cherry Orchard farmer was very helpful, a lot of fun, and very friendly. She pointed out that we should come visit her for peach season.
