Double Thousand Project
Over 8.8 million RMB was donated by China Merchants Bank, Huaxia Bank, Bank of Communications and 45 other financial enterprises for Qingdao's campaign to bring Olympic sailing onto local school campuses.  This will help promote primary and secondary Olympic sailing to young local talented athletes.  The ‘Double Thousand Project’ goals include the creation of one hundred Youth Sailing Clubs, the training 1000 junior sailors, and the purchase of 1000 sailboats for use by students in the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Regatta.


Rain to Clean the 2008 Olympic Air
Seeking to clean the air and ensure sunshine before the 2008 Olympics, Chinese meteorologists say they will, through a process known as cloud seeding, create precipitation in the days before the opening ceremonies to empty the air of excess moisture.

US Sailing Team Wins Two Gold Medals, One Bronze at the 2006 International Sailing Regatta

The first of two annual Olympic Test Events were held at the Qingdao International Marina in Qingdao, a coastal city located 692 kilometers east of Beijing.  Ranked a Grade 2 event by ISAF, the regatta featured the Olympic sailing competition’s nine classes: Finn (men); 470 (men and women); Laser (men); Laser Radial (women); Neil Pryde RS:X (men and women); 49er, Star, Tornado (all open); and Yngling (women).  Exactly two years before the 2008 Olympic Games, 34 top-ranked members of the US Sailing Team (USST) got a taste of Olympic competition at the 2006 Qingdao International Regatta from August 18-31.  The USST competed against 430 sailors from 40 countries and regions.

The "Gas Tax" is Back:
Starting on November 5th, 2007 an additional 1 RMB will be charged on all taxi fares.  This is due to the ever rising gas prices that China and the rest of the world are facing.

The Qingdao Municipal Museum is Closed until July 2008:
The City's Municipal Museum is undergoing "Olympic renovation" and will not open until next year.
