Beike Biotechnology Ltd. was founded in July 2005 with capital from Beijing University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Shenzhen City Hall.  Beike commercialized its stem cell technology that it had been researching since 1999 by extracting and cultivating stem cells from the umbilical cords of healthy newborns. 

 

As a private high-tech enterprise, Beike Biotechnology is dedicated to the clinical application of stem cell research and funded by the China State National Fund.  The research and clinical work is a collaboration of Beijing University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, No. 3 Army Medical University, Zhongshan Medical University, Guiyang Medical College and Zhengzhou University.

 

Stem Cells are precursor cells that can be encouraged to form specific tissues.  BeikeCell provides high quality conditioned stem cells to patients through IntraVenous (IV) drip, direct injection into the spinal canal via lumbar puncture, as well as surgery whereby stem cells are directly applied to injured sections of the spinal cord.  Each application contains around 300,000 stem cells which have been multiplied and conditioned to form the building blocks of whatever is required - spinal cord cells, nerve cells, muscle tissue, etc. 

 

Stem cell therapy is administered in conjunction with physiotherapy rehabilitation and nerve growth factor injections (depending on diagnosis).  By targeting the rehabilitation therapy to areas where improvement or regeneration is required, the stem cells will hopefully develop & mature into the missing or damaged tissue.  However, the therapy is so experimental that limited quantitative analysis of results can be done.
