Qingdao’s air quality especially in ChengYang District is dismal at best. I recently returned from a trip to Yunnan and upon stepping of the plane at the airport I almost gagged.

The taste of Carbon particulate matter similar to that after a large fireworks display during the Chinese New Year is ever present and poses serious health issues for local Qingdao residents during winter months.

Qingdao needs to start cleaning up more than just the tourists areas of ShiNan District!

I went to see the Clipper yachts today, 8 of them have arrived, it’s really terrific! I met some of the Derry-Londonderry sailors, they enjoy being in qingdao a lot, wish Clipper going on well in qingdao, hey guys come to visit the boats!

The central government announced in January 2012 that 52 of 70 Chinese cities recorded month-on-month falls in new home prices, up slightly from 49 in November, a sign that efforts to curb speculation are working.

The government hiked interest rates and restricted bank lending to rein in surging inflation and cool real estate prices, reducing the credit available to buyers and hitting property developers hard.

“So far our tactic of heading north early has failed to pay out but we are still hopeful that it will and with only 40 miles separating the fleet it is still tight,” confirms skipper, Ian Conchie. “We should clear the last of the islands tonight and as the fleet heads out towards Taiwan we will see where we end up.

“It is nice, however, to leave behind the shipping lanes that we have had to deal with for the last few days. In the meantime the temperature remains high and working in the galley during the day is the worst with the heat and a heeling boat to deal with.”

The low-flying ban in Qingdao has been lifted. The helicopter rides are here to stay! Four routes have been approved which include flights over Laoshan as well as over the bay to Huangdao. The helicopter rides cost about 200 RMB per minute.

A 25-year-old woman who was pregnant with triplets died after becoming ill with the A(H1N1) flu, according to QingdaoNews.com. She was hospitalized in the later stages of pregnancy. After slipping into a coma, she delivered triplets via cesarean section before her death.

I called the international clinic today and they said that they do not offer the H1N1 Vaccine to the general public. It is only available to hospital staff.

Here is the phone number for the H1N1 vaccine department at the municipal hospital: +86 (532) 8593-7640.

I know the supplies are limited here in China, but this is ridiculous. If you are in one of the high risk groups I would still go to the hospital and ask them ‘face to face’. Here in China, what they say over the phone is NOT necessarily the whole truth.

Shares of Qingdao Haier Group jumped 4.9 percent to 25.4 yuan yesterday even though the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.6 percent. Haier said it would buy the stakes of two of its subsidiaries in Hong Kong-listed under Haier Electronics Group Co., bring its holding in the unit to 51.31 percent.
