Best Cafes (Coffee Shops) in Qingdao Old Town

Got Coffee? Well Qingdao has lots of it! Here you can find Social Java Stalls like Starbucks & SPR, as well as Korean run joints like Kona & Mission.

U&I Cafe, Qingdao

Qingdao’s cafes and coffee houses are scattered throughout the sailing city, stretching from the sands of ShiLaoRen beach in LaoShan to the shores of colonial Old Town. Although Starbucks and SPR are as common as panhandlers at ZhanQiao Pier, Qingdao Old Town has several unique cafes (coffee shops) that have much more character than those social java stalls, not to mention the fake SPR (wanna-be micro brewery) located in May 4th Square. Qingdao’s original European style cafe, and without a doubt the most popular on Qingdao’s Coffee & Tea Street, set the bench mark for others to follow. Anyone who has spent even a week in Qingdao has heard of Kona Cafe, but there are actually some really cool cafes across town on DaXue Road (the main artery of OUC’s campus) and DaGu Road (off ZhongShan Road) in Qingdao Old Town.

I visited Qingdao in November 2017 and stumbled across an enchanting old Kaffe hus named ‘Day and Night’ – a small 2 story building styled with 1920-30s decor on a Y junction corner near Hunan and Lankou Lu. New Zealanders are fussy about their coffee and this was great. Charming lady owner, very quiet and harmonious surroundings and lovely view out onto the little street and occasional wedding parties being photographed in front of the house. I don’t have the address but phone number is 15066270600. Nice cakes and sandwiches/ mini pizzas. Go there – really worth it for the ambiance and good coffee.

Coffee Space on DaXue Lu. Friendly and welcoming. The espresso is world class, so congratulations! A lovely, quiet reflecting space to chill out. Wifi of course. More than highly recommended….loved it so much that I had to return again and again. Sarnies good too. 非常好。我很喜欢。谢谢。

At Cafe Kona, the Korean MILFS are hotter than the java! Jokes aside, Cafe Kona is the place to be seen on Qingdao Coffee Street. Their garden like sitting area on Minjiang Er Lu, next to Vito’s Italian Ristorante, is an ideal location to relax under a tree while sipping on any one of the assorted iced coffee drinks.
